PROJECT PROPOSAL:

Topic of investigation:
Effect of temperature on rate of diffusion

A

Observations made

I noticed that tea diffuses faster in hot water than cold water. So, I would like to investigate whether and how temperature affects the rate of diffusion.

B

Research Question

Does temperature affect the rate of diffusion?

C

Hypothesis statement

The higher the temperature the greater the rate of diffusion.

D

A short summary of research done on the area of investigation

When a substance of high concentration is placed into water, a substance of lower temperature, the substance will travel from the area of high concentration to the area of lower concentration until equilibrim is reached. However, when the area of lower concentration is of higher temperature, the substance diffuses faster than when placed in an area with lower temperature. According to my research, I have found that as temperature increases, there is more energy and the particles will move faster at a high temperature, thus the rate of diffusion will be faster as the temperature increases.
